QuickTime VR(about 288KB) This garden just outside the Discovery Room is divided into three areas: forest, grassland, and rock garden. You may have a chance to see some seasonal birds and insects as well as beautiful flowers. The Forest Area The Grassland Area Ripple Marks Petrified Wood This area is modeled after typical forests in Kitakyushu, with the same trees and shrubs. This area is modeled after the grasslands of Kitakyushu, including herbs typical in the area. Ripples left their marks on this rock about 30 million years ago. The rock was discovered in the stratum of Tsushima Island. Uncovered at the bottom of Hibikinada, this petrified tree trunk is from a thick forest that was suddenly buried 35 million years ago.
