More than 70 species of dragonfly live in Kitakyushu. Among these, Libellula angelina has been designated as a domestic endangered species by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, but can still be found in a few areas of Kitakyushu.

Kitakyushu's tidal flats are distributed along the coast of the Suo Sea. Many organisms can be found here, including endangered species such as horseshoe crabs and small-scaled sillagos.
