KMNH［Nature Discovery Room］

Walking up the slope from the Biodiversity Room, you will find the Nature Discovery Room. This Room is divided into five sections detailing the characteristics of the natural science of the Kitakyushu area. The sections are Sea, Freshwater, Forest, Grassland, and Geology.

This is a model of the geology of Kitakyushu; drawn on the map is the coastline circa 5000 years ago.	This diorama shows the “Senbutsu-Shonyudo Cave,” a national monument, and other limestone caves of Hiraodai Plateau. Geologic phenomena in the caves are also shown.	Reproduced here is a section of the beaches and rocks that form the northern coastline at Wakamatsu. The various organisms that make their lives here are also introduced.	This diorama depicts a secondary forest dominated by evergreen broad-leaved trees in early summer. You can also see representations of the various animals that live in these forests.

Here are some living animals, including a giant salamander, beetles, tarantulas, field mice, and fish.	More than 70 species of dragonfly live in Kitakyushu. Among these, Libellula angelina has been designated as a domestic endangered species by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, but can still be found in a few areas of Kitakyushu.	Kitakyushu's tidal flats are distributed along the coast of the Suo Sea. Many organisms can be found here, including endangered species such as horseshoe crabs and small-scaled sillagos.	The Murasakigawa River flows through the center of Kitakyushu. This diorama depicts the wildlife that live in the river, including fish like Oyanirami and Kamatsuka, birds like grebes and kingfishers.
